‘Brought into this world in 1953, by hook or by crook, this Lincolnshire born lad enjoyed village life to the full in nearby rural Nottinghamshire. This idyllic existence of flooded becks, Grandpa’s fallen apples, sixteen cats and a multitude of cow pats, continued until the big wide world invited him to become a student at, what was then, Bristol Polytechnic.

At 13 pence a pint and £3 a week rent, life was good, and even a jolly good certificate in Business Studies promised plenty. Toughened up by years of playing mixed hockey to a level which would embarrass most team members, Clive’s first real employment was sweeping the streets around a well-known Bristol cigarette manufacturer. After a while this became a drag, and he accepted a move into computing, joining a financial institution. Even now, it is rumoured that he still holds the record for sprinting up the fire escape steps at HQ, to the 16th floor lobby - fifty nine seconds - for those of you who are obsessed with statistics!

On October 6th, 1988, a momentous journey took Clive away from the uninspiring IT career he was desperate to leave. Two and half years of travelling around the world, one incredible experience after another, steered him towards a yearning to take photographs, initially just for fun, and later for even more fun, but also as a way of paying for the custard and crumpets (not on the same plate!)

The plunge into full-time photography eventually came about on New Year’s Day, 1997. This was soon after a major competition win took him to Australia, much to the chagrin of his fellow workers who saw him stand up and punch the air, whilst screaming “I’m outa here”, immediately after receiving the all important phone call from the competition organizer.

Clive has his photographic standards set higher than ever, and his work and amiable character are much sought after.
